Agent-based technology and software
There are many applications where classical techniques of simulation are not appropriate. Agent-based technology and simuation provides an interesting alternative in solving problems in the mathematical, physical and social scientific communities. The Software Engineering Group are activities involved in develop agent-based technology for both serial and parallel processng systems. Multi-agent systems are very complex applications to programme implement and optimise for large populations of agents. The optimisation of agent interactions and the management of initial data and outputs for large scale simulations are but two areas that need research and development efforts

SoftEng has been collaborating with group around Europe in agent-based simulations and in particular with Computer Science at Sheffield Univeristy. Together the have developed FLAME - the Fleible Large-scale Agent Modeling Enviornment. This is the main develop tools of SoftEng in inverstigating advanced multi-agent simulations and parallel implementations of agent-based simulations.
SoftEng is particularly interest in develop implementations of agent-based applications that use high perfromacne computing systems.
